CCTV Camera Solutions: Surat's New Vigilance Network

For those who thought that they had seen all the advancement possible in Gujarat, it is time to think again. On Thursday, July 18, 2013, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Surat’s new vigilance network. The newly installed closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras have come as India’s first project based on the Public Private Partnership model. With a number of private entities playing a role in its movement, this new vigilance network known as “Safe City Surat”, has received wide applause.

“Safe City Surat”
The city of Surat is all set to have over 5000 cameras at 500 locations on a radius of 200 kilometres across the city. The wide range CCTV cameras that are to be installed in three phases are at the peak of technology and offer wide coverage of the city at good focus. They are tamper-proof and can withstand different changes in weather conditions and also have good night vision.

Apart from being useful in rooting out crime, this new project is excellent when it comes to providing reports on fire alarms, water levels, physical security, disaster recovery and excavation plans. The Command and Control room is also very well secured and protected against vandalism. With such high care being taken to make CCTV surveillance technology function at its very best in this city, there is no doubt that the project is all set to be a huge success.

The inauguration of this CCTV surveillance project by Narendra Modi has just set the path for the remainder of this project being rolled out in its three phases. All set to protect the citizens of Surat, this project is also all set to be a new model for the rest of India in protecting its cities.
