TAMRON ANNOUNCES 2 MP/FULL HD-COMPATIBLE COMPACT ZOOM LENS FOR BOARD CAMERAS

The demand for mini-dome cameras has grown within the surveillance camera market, chiefly due to their installation efficiency and reasonable cost, and higher quality has been a requirement for the low-end 3"-class mini-dome cameras in recent years.Previous mini-dome cameras used Vari-Focal lenses that required the zoom and focus to be adjusted manually, requiring time and effort during installation in order to achieve precise focus adjustments in mega-pixel class cameras. The number of outdoor installations of mini-dome cameras has also increased, leading to a greater need for lens brightness and zoom functionality, as well as remote control operation.Tamron's new 2-mega-pixel/Full HD/IR compatible compact zoom lenses are designed to meet these specific needs by delivering the convenience of zoom lenses but in a size that fits the low-end mini-dome chassis. In addition to the frequently used existing wide angle 3.0-9mm lens, a new 9-22mm medium telephoto lens of an equivalent size is now available, and both can be operated by remote control via networks. These products provide an all-new solution to mini-dome camera applications.

Tamron announces the development of a 30X-zoom Global Shutter Type Camera Module

Tamron leading manufacturer of optics for diverse applications, announces the development of a 30X-zoom .General camera modules employ a ‘rolling shutter CMOS sensor’ for the imager, which tends to cause artifacts for imaging objects in quick motion.
Tamron, considering this issue, adopts a shutter CMOS image sensor’ for camera modules. This structure of sensor outputs images free of imaging artifacts for quick motion and is utilized in FA/machine vision cameras. The new development offers customers a ‘30X-zoom Shutter Type Camera Module with a shutter CMOS image sensor’, with image fidelity assured by a high-quality optical 30X zoom and compatible with full HD resolution.
1. Performance Realized by a Shutter CMOS Image Sensor
A ‘rolling shutter CMOS sensor’, as employed in general camera modules, captures target images sequentially from upper to lower scan-lines; artifacts are incurred on fast-moving objects (focal plane distortion) due to the sequential delay to run each scan. A ‘global shutter CMOS image sensor’ allows capturing target images without this artifact by running scan on all the scan-lines simultaneously.Excellent image rendition of fast moving objects is most effectively demonstrated in applications such as the recognition of vehicle license plate, or in which cameras are mounted on mobile objects such as drones and UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles).

Sony Releases STARVIS Back-Illuminated CMOS CCTV Sensor

Sony’s STARVIS sensor technology increases the sensitivity of back-illuminated CMOS image sensors for security cameras.STARVIS increases the light utilization efficiency over a wide range of wavelengths, enhancing sensitivity not only in the visible light region but also the near infrared light region that is often used by security cameras. As a result, STARVIS achieves a sensitivity of 2,000 mV or more per 1μ㎡ pixel size, and realizes 2 or more times the sensitivity of the existing CCD image sensor (EXview HAD CCD II).Higher Sensitivity to Near Infrared Light Security cameras require good visibility under low-visible-light illumination, and also sensitivity to near infrared light, which is considered important for completely dark conditions and the day/night function. STARVIS enhances visibility by using a back-illuminated structure that increases sensitivity to visible light, and also by applying technology that increases sensitivity to near infrared light. The IMX290LQR, which commenced mass production from June 2015, realizes 2 or more times the sensitivity in the visible light region and three or more times the sensitivity in the near infrared light region (850 nm) compared to the existing same-pixel-size product with enhanced near infrared light sensitivity that uses a front-illuminated structure. The overall result is superior visibility. Outstanding Sensitivity Characteristics at Low Illumination Security cameras are often used to image dark scenes, so they are used with the lens aperture fully open in many cases. When the lens aperture is fully open, the angle of incident light increases. Therefore, when using a front-illuminated structure, the wiring layer between the on-chip lens on the front surface of the CMOS image sensor and the photodiode that performs photoelectric conversion blocks part of the incident light, which was a factor lowering the sensitivity. In contrast, the back-illuminated structure adopted by STARVIS does not have a wiring layer that blocks incident light above the photodiode, dramatically increasing the light utilization efficiency.

China’s CCTV surveillance network took just 7 minutes to capture BBC reporter

It took Chinese authorities just seven minutes to locate and apprehend BBC reporter John Sudworth using its powerful network of CCTV camera and facial recognition technology.
This wasn’t a case of a member of the media being forcibly removed from the country. The chase was a stunt set up to illustrate just how powerful and effective the Chinese government’s surveillance system can be. It’s a stark example of the type of monitoring that China has invested heavily in over recent years with the aim of helping police do their job more efficiently.
Such systems are also used in private organizations, for example to monitor workers and processes in factories, but government critics have warned of the potential for abuse in the hands of the state.
China has the largest monitoring system in the world. There are some 170 million CCTV cameras across the country, and that’s tipped to grow more than three-fold with 400 million more set to be installed by 2020.
Beyond the sheer numbers of lookout points, China is harvesting information with a new-found focus on intelligence. The government also works with facial recognition and AI companies, such as unicorn Face++, which can pour through data to extract meaningful information such as faces, ages, registration plates and more.

India video surveillance camera market shipments grew 55% yoy

India video surveillance camera (VSC) market shipments reached 1.04 million units for CY 3Q 2014, recording a substantial YOY growth of around 55 percent over CY 3Q 2013. The market, however, declined around 16 percent over CY 2Q 2014. According to 6Wresearch, rising transportation infrastructure, increasing public surveillance, government security spending, growing IT spending across major applications, and surging crime rates have fueled the demand for video surveillance systems in India. Video Surveillance Camera (VSC) market, which is dominated by analog surveillance camera, is witnessing a shift towards IP surveillance cameras on account of declining prices and demand for remote access, the research firm stated. Some of the major players in the India VSC market are Hikvision, CP Plus, Dahua Security, Securus, Secure-Eye and Maximus. As many as 140 vendors shipped VSC devices and three vendors shipped above 50,000 VSC devices. Hikvision and CP Plus captured more than 35 percent share of the market.According to Anuj Mehrotra, research analyst, 6Wresearch-India Electronics Division, "Over the past decade, India Video Surveillance Camera market has witnessed various technological advancements such as remote monitoring, cloud storage and integrated video analytics. Further, the surveillance cameras which are available today are far cost effective, technologically sound and more user friendly.""Video analytics market in India is in its nascent stage, where rising security threats and criminal identification are expected to boost its market in the coming quarters, which would in turn fuel the demand for IP surveillance cameras," he added.Video Surveillance systems in India have captured major share of the modern security systems, though, installation and maintenance cost remains a major challenge for the growth of India's Video Surveillance market. However, government and OEM's are taking various initiatives to increase the awareness regarding the irrefutable advantages as compared to the onetime cost of surveillance systems, 6Wresearch added.
